This is actually stereo, even though label matrix would be mono. Real thick piece of vinyl, between 180-200 grams

Don't know anything about this label or how legit this pressing is, but the sound is decent. No warps, pops, clicks, or distortion (beyond what may have been present in the original). Disappointed with the back cover though, as it doesn't have the full text from the original back cover, nor even the picture of Max Roach! Still, it's a timeless album, and one I'm happy to have on wax.

Scored this for $11US and couldn't be happier! While I won't be listening to the vocal tracks very often (quite intense for regular listening), the pressing is fantastic! Well made cover with a properly flat 180g, not even the slightest noise nor flaw and a third of the price of today's reissues at three times the quality. I know, it's a GZ pressing but this one is top notch! DO IT!

to reissue this incredible, important LP without its original cover was a crime.

Better than expected given the previous reviews and CD versions I’ve listened to.
An analog repressing from Max’s original tapes on the order of the current Blue Note Tone Poet series are what is deserved for such an important record. Maybe wishful thinking on my part.
Does not have the fidelity of the Clifford Brown Max Roche Records and there is some minor noise noticeable on Triptych. This one is acceptable for now until an ultimate issue comes out.

Any reviews of this release? Is this just a European gray market release?

I’ve bought some terrible pressings of records but this is by far the worst. My copy came with some white crusty stuff on “Triptych” and the high end distorts constantly. Abbey sounds awful on this pressing. Avoid it like the plague.

Based on Rainbo pressing numbers S-89960/S-89961 (which are not always reliable), this is probably a 2014 reissue.

As far as I know, this is the only version of "We Insist!" released on CD that doesn't suffer from very obvious flaws in the sound. According to liner notes, this Japanese reissue was made from Max Roach's personal master tapes. For some reason, Candid seems to have lost its own master tapes (or maybe Roach never gave them to the label), so all of their own CD releases of the album have issues with sound distortion, sounding like a vinyl rip. The 2011 Poll Winners Records reissue uses the Candid CD as a source, and therefore it has the same distortion. So this Victor reissue is the one to get if you wanna hear this amazing album on CD.
