Original Control (Electro The Robot) with the Dirge breakbeat (Sly Stone) .... D.H.S. ! D.H.S. could do wrong in the 90s or beyond for that matter! ;)

Orbital's Mindstream mix is one of the best classic dance songs forever! You can hear it and hear it over and over "real time, slow motion...")

What a great set of tunes. My favourite was originally the orbital remix, but as eiskristall mentions goa trance effectively killed that one off.

The other 2 tunes are still amazing though, particularly Electro The Robot's immortal line, 'my brain is bigger than, yours'

I think this record was the turning point for me, when I broke away definitively from 80's "progressive" toward techno/rave culture and music. Up to that point I had listened to a lot of Wax Trax/EBM/industrial, but I had no idea what else was had been going on in the UK, Chicago or Detroit club scenes leading up to the early 90's.

I found this in the used bin and bought it because I had MBM's Storm the Studio and thought why not.... Well, the MBM tracks were OK, but these guys Orbital and Aphex Twin, neither of whom I had known, kind of blew my mind. Discovering this record in some ways changed my life.

About the music- The MBM tunes are fairly good but I'd say just a bit above average. Despite my initial fascination, Aphex's mix could be rated the same- it's like something from ICBYD, much the same bassline as "Start As You Mean To Go On", with a nice midpoint breakdown, but....

Neither have much of a chance of escaping the long shadow cast by Orbital's mix here. It is a pure classic, re-released as "Remind" on the Brown album (as mentioned above). Those first 32 measures of crystal clear, soaring melody still give me goosebumps.

This track contains an pre-goa trance attitude which a lot of people can't hear any more today, but for the circumstances in development of electronic music movement in 1993 it was a really innovative mindblowing tune. I also prefer the flip side of this record, the Aphex Twin remix sounds like his other productions on R&S at this time and my favourite is "Original Control". I can't explain exactly why, but I still love it...

Orbital liked their "Mindstream (Mind The Bend The Mind)" remix so much that they put it on their second Lp (brown) as "Remind", but without the original Meatbeat Manifesto vocal which comes in on this version.
