With the success of her debut album The Spirit Room (2002) and the single Everywhere Michelle Branch was soon counted among the new crop of female singer/songwriters, along with, for example, Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. Outside of the United States continued the success, however, limited to Everywhere and the collaboration with Santana on his song "The Game Of Love. That these numbers were added as bonus tracks on the European version of Branchs new cd Hotel Paper (2003) wouldn't you also be able to see as an admission of weakness: there was nothing better available? Fortunately, this question is not right because Michelle Branch shows itself often enough a talented songwriter/singer/guitarist. It is mainly solid rock songs as Are You Happy Now? (with Dave Navarro on guitar), Find Your Way Back and Breathe that stand out, but the most striking number is One Of These Days, with only a piano and soft electronics guidance. Although Michelle Branch Hotel Paper sometimes plays on very safe and not everything is equally strong, she proves again that they are the title ' new young talent ' certainly is worth.
