Notes

"Panthalassa" marks a return to some of the most important recordings of Miles Davis' passionate and controversial "electric" period of the early 1970s. Conceived by producer Bill Laswell as a modern mix translation and reconstruction in sound, this unprecedented project features newly restored performances and never-before-heard extended themes from "In A Silent Way" (1969), "On The Corner" (1972) and "Get Up With It" (1974) - all taken from the original multitrack tapes.

This was the first time that anyone had attempted to remix the master on a full album release so Laswell had much to live up to. Did he pull it off? Hell yeah! It certainly helped that he chose some of Miles' finest work from from his fusion era. Wisely he decided not to tamper too much with the originals but rather use subtle electronics and rearrangements to create an album which distiled the essence of the music originally written over several years in to one amazing hour.
