Very, very cute LP. They had a strong run right up until "Glam" - but at that point tore up the blueprints. Sometimes change is necessary!

I can only echo the consensual opinion here. This is without doubt one of the most imaginative and perfect albums ever made, a perennial in my personal Top10. Sadly, its perfection rendered all of MoM's follow-up materials a letdown for me, interesting as they mostly were. But here the duo (trio?) hit on a perfect balance between sonic innovation, playfulness and sheer loveliness. This is world-building with sound, every bit as original and transporting as Aphex Twin's or pre-Untilted Autechre's. Minus the weirdout factor — the world presented here being a jolly cartoon galaxy teaming with friendly lifeforms descended from Kenny Scharf paintings. It's the Nutcracker Suite in Space, and there is still detail in it that strikes me as new with each new listening, 25 years after the fact.

An absolute masterpiece of an album. Mouse on Mars have always received accolades and praise for their work over the years, but arguably not enough. It's hard to believe this album was released over 24 years ago...it still sounds fresh. Playful, melodic, complex, erratic, simple and beautiful, it is all of these things and more. I would love to know what hardware and software Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma were using to build and structure such amazing sounds during the creation of this album. Incidentally, track 8 (Schlektron) contains a melodic element which bears a passing resemblance to the chiming melody which runs through the track 'Parks' from the album Pause by Four Tet, although that album was released six years after Iaora Tahiti. If you enjoy electronic music that is skillfully crafted, melodic and full of interesting sound design, I highly recommend you give this album a listen if you haven't already done so.

A stunning and most forward for its time album. Electronic music with character and soul. What can we want more? 'Schunkel' is absolutely brilliant playful music, everytime something new to discover in it and one of my all time MOM favorites.

Mouse On Mars: Andi Toma, Jan St. Werner ;Nobuko Sagai (vocals); Wolfgang Flur, Dodo Nkishi (drums). This is the follow-up to Mouse On Mars's 1994 debut VULVALAND, finds the band's multi-textured techno-pop refined to a high art. The German-based duo takes its cue from its Krautrock forebears, using spacey, insistent beats and grooves as an anchor for its smooth analogue language and digital chittering. The first two tracks, "Stereomission" and "Kompod," are expansive, loping compositions founded on fluid, burbling basslines. "Achunkel" sounds like ghosts playing drums in a cybernetic junkyard. "Bib" plows a swirling ambient vortex with pulse-quickening techno rhythms. Must be their best.
