This is one those reviews I’ve written in my head many times over the years but it never came to fruition. Never until now. I have no recollection if I had heard this before I bought this. Maybe I read a review or two beforehand or then not because around year 2001 Mr. G was my favourite producer I would buy anything I could get my hands on. But it’s year 2018 and ’G’s Strings’ is still very high on my all time classics list.
Now, why is that? Actually I can in some way understand those that don’t find it very special. It takes time before those chords kick in and the production quality is slightly flat, especially the kick drum. But for me the beat programming is just perfect. Utterly, perfect. I love the beat with its hand claps and hi hats. And the beat is like the god damn Wehrmacht marching though the main street of an invaded town. It is so damn powerful, it is so damn perfect. Play this one out loud to feel it full effect. Now those ”strings”, they actually aren’t original. They first appeared on ’Gladesmen’ released on Defected. So in theory this is a remix albeit who can be sure which one was written first. But to my mind ’G’s Strings’ has always been a more powerful techno re-interpretation of ’Gladesmen’.
I remember this getting some very positive reviews back in the day. And my most joyful memory is the summer 2001 Carl Cox’ Essential mix with him playing this between Wolf N Flow’s ’Moody’ and Bryan Zentz’ remix of ’It’s The Machines’ by Carl and Josh Wink. (By the way Carl, when are you gonna release the latter one, these seventeen years have been enough!) So yes, this one hasn't faded over the years and is another landmark release by Mr. McBean. A personal favourite and classic of mine and if you missed it, it’s not too late.

Pitch G's strings at +4% and it comes alive, simply sublime tech house with driving rhythms and those ride cymbals make ALL the difference in the World. Keep a keen ear out for those subtle changes in the kick drums depth as well, mind and ear trickery for the soul!

G's Strings is an expertly-crafted and driving track.
