To be honest, I'd never heard from Mushy a.k.a. Valentina Fanigliulo when I first stumbled upon a copy of Faded Heart in my local record store. I'm a fan of the Mannequin label so I checked this album right away. I was expecting dark minimal wave but to my surprise this album sounded totally different from the other output on the label. Valentina combines analog synthesizers and drumcomputers with a dusty sounding accoustic guitar and her beautiful mysterious voice. The result is a magic yet bizarre world of psychedelica, kraut and poetry. I've never heard something like this before and it's exactly what I always wanted to hear: minimal wave and psychedelica/ambient blended together. Before anyone would link this description to Cocteau Twins, Nico, etc: don't, this sounds completely different, it's much, much darker, more layered and twisted. Faded Heart is nothing less than a masterpiece and the pinnacle from the Mannequin label. I hope to hear more great music from Valentina Fanigliulo in the future. 5/5
