2nd album from this Danish multi-instrumental musician and fashion model—Amalie Bruun is an accomplished chanteuse in the Scandinavian black metal world, but she adeptly tempers her demonic rage with a sometimes angelic voice and elements of folk music with classical orchestration. Much of the music has a atmospheric flow that pits big, sludgy grind-chords against an undeniable soaring beauty. Rich song arrangements mix with a subtle sense of doom amidst strains of traditional mythology. Bruun isa former member of Ex Cops. Recalls artists like Chelsea Wolfe (who makes an appearance on the album), King Woman, Alcest, Bjork, Solstafir. “Mareridt” is an extraordinarily beautiful, ambitious and challenging-but-listenable album that largely succeeds due to Bruun’s exceptional talent. Recommended. NOTE: “Myrkur” is Danish for “Nightmare”; “Mareridt” is Icelandic for “darkness”.
