Notes

First release of this CD made by PDO. This CD has a golden color on both sides which was given by adding a dye during the manufacturing process (when putting the CD on a white background, you can see a yellow color around the clear part around the hub). Not to be confused with the 'disc rot' issue, but both can be compatible.

Despite "Cut by Denis at Porky's" is mentioned on the booklet, this album was not released on vinyl format.
Durations are not listed on the release.

One of my all-time most cherished musical recordings. I remember first hearing it on late night radio when it came out and rushing to find a copy, which I've treasured to this day, glad to see that Cashmore reissued all the NAO stuff to make it more easily obtainable. On the strength of the chamber music compositions and arrangements here (Blood Of Solitude I, II) Michael Cashmore could be composing neo-classical music among the ranks of Max Richter, Christina Vantzou, if he wanted to (I really wish he would). But this one album is the crowning jewel of the entire neofolk genre IMO.

My first press gold CD came signed and dated (22 ViII 94) in gold ink by Michael Cashmore. I guess I must have ordered it direct from C93 or Nature and Org, too long ago to remember now! Edited - This is a super album with great sound quality. Upon listening again after ten plus years I can report the production values are high, it stands apart from the Current 93 and Death in June work from this era, which in some cases are dated and poorly produced. A must for any C93 or DIJ fan who's not heard it. The enjoyable rendition of My Black Diary is a more song based version than the abstract spoken word version which appeared on an obscure compilation, who's name escapes me.

By the time i listened this album for the first time i havent yet watched the movie "the wicker man", i mean not to refer to the absurd piece of trash made by Hollywood and poorly acted by retarded Nicolas Cage but the well assented and richly interplayed British film from 1973. As part of the soundtrack from the movie there is one of the most beautiful tracks available: "Willow's song" originally created by Paul Giovanni and exclusively made for the film.

Years later when i finally watched the movie I was overly impressed by the beauty of the context in which the track was depicted and the quasi video technique used to interpret the scene in the movie, more than anything i had this ubiquitous uneasiness from not being sure where i have heard such version before and it took a couple of years more to get back to the album where I originally listened to it. It was a great surprise to solve the "mystery".
I must say the Rose McDdowall with Nature & organisation collective version capture very well the sweet and tender sensuality from the original, more than that it may even improve it with the arrangements and singing, the delicacy, the feminine chracter imprinted, the pagan atmosphere.

The collective truly created a gem, one of the most elaborated, well thought and assented works from the whole World Serpent catalogue. Asaid from that, the fact that people within the ranks of neo-pagan thought such as Tibet, Douglas p, Cashmore, McDowall and the jack of all trades Mr Stapleton actually reunited to create an album that agglutinates many of the contemporary sentiments from paganism for one classic piece of artistic creation is truly remarkable.

This album is easily a cult one for lovers of pagan folk music as it digs deep into the British folk and actually captures its escense for the greater good, its secret wildness and oddly colorful spirit recites the same chants that pair with all Pan's oddities for life's will. A majestic chant for the love of life and the power of the creative and destructive force that resides in love.

One of the most richest beauty embracing records ever made. The split from david and roses vocals are amazing. And the the backing tracks are in unison with the emotional feeling of the beauty and the beauty destroyed....

Excellent excellent work from Tibet and Cashmore, the latter's traditional yet psychedelically vast and orchestral compositions are really allowed to shine. Well on par with the best of Current 93 (and exceeding quite a bit of Tibet's work in sheer compositional quality if I might say). Of what I've heard it consider it only second to Thunder Perfect Mind.
