A Factory Record.

First edition. Later UK editions can have a die-cut cover with thin matte black inner sleeve, or a die-cut cover with thick glossy black inner sleeve, or a plain black with just the colour coding and different inner sleeves.

The coloured strip is not random - it spells out the Catalog#, band name and both song titles.
The back cover of "Power, Corruption and Lies" has the same colour coding, done with the alphabet (a decoder ring).

First pressing: 60.000 copies (30.000 pre-sales).
Initial A1/B1 pressings are characterised by a heavy and opaque vinyl. Runout space is 0,35 inches. The first edition thick silver inner sleeve has straight top corners.

"Outvoted" in the runout refers to an error done by the Strawberry engineer, who brought up the fader too late and missed the first drumbeat. New Order took a vote whether the mistake should stay and the yes vote prevailed.

Did any of the first factory copies have the tracks written on the silver inner sleeve in biro?

This 12" helped redefine dance music. It remains possibly the greatest drum machine demo ever!

A non rare record of great importance. It is Industrial Disco to me, you may call it Synth Pop, but it is no Electro. It slammed all other stuff in 1983 and still is very strong and with little to compare. It just stands on it's own.
It crosses the fields of Electronic Pop (in the tradition of Alexander Robitnik, Manuel Gottsching, Gary Numan) and Kraftwerk and what later became Electronic Body Music.

My copy differs a bit obviously...
A: FACT 73 A2
THE ROBOT. STRAWBERRY. GG
B: FACT 73 B2
THE ROBOT. STRAWBERRY. GG

Die-cut thick black innersleeve, quite thin vinyl.
Anybody else that also got a copy with THE ROBOT inscription?

We seem to have a variant copy of this press..
A runout FAC - 73 - A-1 MT.3. STRAWBERRY OUT VOTED!
B runout FAC - 73 - B-1 MT.1 STRAWBERRY HO, EL + TEL!

Die cut sleeve/thick black card inner - I understand these generally do not have the Ho, El + Tel etch.

...Not sure if a crossover copy or mistakenly put into wrong inner or what, actually...

I have Blue Monday (Fac73) on 12" vinyl. The label on the b-side says 'The Beach', yet there are 4 tracks on there, which after some investigation, turns out to be the 4 tracks off the b-side of Joy Division's Closer. Does anyone else have this?
