Nice pressing and packaging but I just can't hum along with these 'tunes'.

Bit of a borefest.

1) Quality
Pressing I have sounds well balanced, dark but not too heavy and isn’t warped or anything. Lower and mid-tones are placed well so they sound distinctive from one another. Quality pressing which brings pleasure to my ears.

2) The music
Seeing discussion below it feels like ‘reviewers’ are getting fed by populism and it’s now more than ever reflected in everything people discus. Where is the nuance? Where are the questions? Music is something we all on Discogs appreciate -> when artists explore/are directed into new ways, why whine about what was. Or complain hardly that it’s rubbish. If it’s not your taste okay, but open up your ears and you might find something new now and then in stead of rambling on about yesteryear.

Personally I love the last 3 albums, so confided me a newer fan, but coming to know these album I discovers the older works as well. Getting to know the artists, the band (especially when decades pass) brings extra layers into the musical paths. Events in life changes people, so it is bound to change the artist, so it is reflected in a change of music.

The most accomplished, yet most minimalist of Cave’s three ‘electronic’ albums.

I think, obliquely, it is about the tragic death of his son.

Love the album, and the explorations of the artist. It is NOT a bad thing that an artist decides to explore different sides. It IS a bad thing when fans post stupid reviews whining about an artist stretching into new directions. I was taken by the sonic landscapes, the sombre tone, it is dark and beautiful. My only complaint was that after paying a premium for the high quality LP pressings, I got an mp3 digital download? Seriously? So I digitized it myself. Note to artists: If you release something- do a higher quality digital release for this who actually pay for the high quality LPs.

The once mighty bad seeds has recently become a duo (Ellis & Cave) who put meditative rambling poetry to ambient loops and washes. I’m all for artists exploring new directions, but they’ve been mining this seam for three albums now. There are no tunes, there is no edge, the fire has gone- hopefully not forever.

A great record. Those who fault it for a divergence from Abattoir Blues or Nocturama are imposing an ex-post facto preference on the artist more than a decade after Mick Harvey's departure. The question is are the songs strong? Would they work as full-on Bad Seeds blowouts given the subject matter? On the album's last song, "Hollywood," Cave describes a departure from a loved one (presumably his wife) and a journey into Los Angeles, but soon cuts into a story of a woman whose child has died, leaving her frantic with grief. The story is actually a famous parable of Buddhism (Kisa Gotami and the Parable of the Mustard Seed,) which describes the inescapable loss of loved ones. In this case, it's not something that Nick has reimagined as a murder ballad or as a great screenplay about the Australian Outback. It's a real tragedy from his life, one that is best served by the restrained elegiac arrangements found on the record.

Mine is a great, clean, flat, quiet, rich and beautiful pressing of an absolutely astonishing album. I think this may be Nick Cave's masterpiece. Great edition, great album. My album of 2019, no contest.

Makes sense as a Cave / Eliis soundtrack album but not a Bad Seeds release imo. There are few to no contributions by a number of the band, the two drummers / percussionists being the most glaringly obvious. Warren is an insanely talented individual but his influence in the Bad Seeds and over Cave's muse has been way too overpowering imo. Mick Harvey's influence as a counterpoint who would challenge Nick Cave rather than just be a yes man is sorely missed

I have only listened to a digital copy so cannot comment on pressing quality but the music is sublime, the lyrics moving. A few of the comments below had me rolling my eyes; finding it hard to believe that even regarding an album dealing with the loss of a child somebody manages to invoke anti-woke sentiment.
