France`s excellent progressive rock-jazz-funk band Zoo released only 3 long plays under their own name.....the self-titled debut in 1969, the great "I Shall Be Free" the following year with Britain's Ian Bellamy, and their last, "Hard Times Good Times" in 1972. Late in 1971, however, the band recorded this rare and little-known collaboration with French songstress Nicoletta (Grisoni).

"Visage" is an excellent progressive beat-soul-rock gem that's of course highlighted with Nicoletta's solid vocals.....but it really stands out for the gutsy and funky musicianship courtesy of Zoo.....great horns, flutes, swirling organ & violins, rhythmic beats, nice guitar breaks and some tasty sample material.

This is the LP that includes the highly controversial "Dieu est Negre" (God is Black), that got the album banned in parts of Europe when it was released early in 1971.
