"Rollin' Reptiles" was a favourite down at Knowledge, London's first weekly techno night, back in 1992/93. It's a simple affair, comprised largely of samples, but in terms of rocking dancefloor techno that makes you jump up and down rather than spazzing you out, it's a winner. Punishing stabs (with a similar but harder sound to that used in Inner City's "Good Life" and "Big Fun") push and push and give the track a sense of urgency, while a loose breakbeat and handclap sample rattles over the top. A huge phased bass pulse fills any space left empty, and then for a short time some simply arranged bell sounds darken the atmosphere, before those stabs flood back in, enforcing an almost military uniformity in the direction of the crowd's movements.

This isn't all that deep, hardly experimental, and not even that original, but there are few tracks that lack these properties that still get me going as much as "Rollin' Reptiles". A real dancefloor mover.
