This debut album from Oliver Schories is an instantly engaging blend of the techno/minimal-techno and house vibes. Its title translates as "affair of the heart," so the "emotech" moniker seems a good fit, too. If so, it's emotech without the drippy "method acting" pander of the "house revival" trendoids or the edgy "bleeding ear" experimentalism of the techno fashionistas. I just think this is what tech-house should sound like in 2012, and it's a solid listen, start to finish.

It's melodic in a comfortably intimate way, but with plenty of rhythm and energy layered in. With superb ebb-and-flow programming from track to track, it's also an album with some serious narrative direction, and it's hard to imagine moving (or removing) even one of the tunes in the sequence.

Definitely works for me.
