Supraphon Release Information

The final instalment in Supraphon’s Olympic Gold Edition series!

The twelve parts of the six-year rock retrospective project capture perhaps the most famous period of the legendary Czech “big-beat” band’s history, stretching over more than four decades from the release of the breakthrough Želva (Turtle) album. The early 1990s saw Olympic in Petr Janda’s own studio, with a repertoire improved by hard rock and virtuoso musicality, but also the absence of a large number of outright hits - this may have been the reason for the next project, Jako zamlada, affording the opportunity to the young Olympic members to repeat the time-honoured pieces dating from the band’s illustrious past. And it definitely paid off. Following a short time recharging their batteries, Olympic re-emerged with a new energy, which would last for another two decades.

This CD features the entire “O, jé” album, the final Supraphon single and a reworking of some of the band’s seminal older pieces. A total of 30 tracks to delight all those with a penchant for melodious and recognisably Czech rock, occasionally responding to global impulses yet always meeting the audience’s desire to sing along to their beloved choruses at Olympic’s concerts.

The final instalment of the highly successful Olympic Gold Edition!

Kalemegdan Disk Additions

O, jé is an average 80s’ Rock – Hardrock album. The bonus material is the complete A side of the LP Jako zamlada, recorded in 1989 and released in 1992, which was the last LP by Olympic Supraphon had released. Jako zamlada is the attempt to create something in between a compilation and a medley leading the listener through the band’s whole carreer. The A side of the LP contained the earlier half and the B side the later half of Olympic being active as a rock band. The packing (an extensive booklet combined with a slipcase) is convincing.
