Supraphon Release Information

A new album launching Olympic’s second half-century! This is the rock band’s eighteenth studio work and dedicated to the recently deceased percussionist Peroutka but clearly revealing the determination to go on.

In the summer, Petr Janda offered his colleagues more than twenty songs. Ultimately, they chose and recorded fourteen, some featuring Janda’s own lyrics, with others written with assistance from Eduard Krečmar, Karel Šíp, Miroslav Černý and Aleš Brichta. The majority of the tracks are immediately recognisable as created by Olympic, with some coming across as nostalgic, yet none of the music is gloomy or sullen, with the “big-beat” themes of music, women, occasional alcohol and mature romanticism retained.

Olympic fans will find on the album very fresh sounding echoes of perhaps all phases of the band’s illustrious history. Some of the melodies and vocals are clearly reminiscent of the 1960s, others feature a hardrock sound with the rhythms of Broum/Vajgl (a permanent guest on percussion) and Valenta’s keyboards, yet all of them possess catchy refrains. Logically, everything is mainly the work of Janda, the composer, vocalist and bass guitarist, since he is the prime bearer of the collective message: we are still around and coming up with new hits, which certainly is the case of the songs Pane můj (Rocková modlitba) (My Lord (A Rock’n’Roll Prayer)), Já nejsem zlej (I’m not Bad), Jen tak si jdu (Just Walking), Tebe se nemusím bát (I Needn’t Be afraid of You) and Prázdnej dům (Empty House).

A proper slice of Olympic nostalgia imbued with new energy!
