WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING collects Opiate tracks that have appeared on various compilations, and Knak gets to show off his more experimental side with these compositions. "1% In 2/3 Speed" maintains a ticky-tack rhythm to complement the lugubrious melody, and "Srain" pushes that rhythmic style even further. "Late" plinks out a merry little tune amongst spacious synth pads, while "GM Memory" gets slightly moodier. His collaboration with Alva Noto, "Opto File 1," merges a quiet granular rhythm with long synth pulls, while "Insert" drifts off into the ether. Short but enjoyable.
