A truly astonishing album. Folk music across the ages has concerned itself with tales of people and their relationship to land and social pressures, and here exists far beyond politics and ideology - these being enemies of life and nature - though dealing with the painful realities of war. The melodies and singing sweep across a range of directly exporessed emotions, the lyrics include many voices and deft poetic touches that travel through time in many directions. Fine fine soul music.
