Bruno's Total Rebuild is a demented tour de force that completely overshadows the other two remixes on this EP and that is no mean feat as none other than Surgeon himself provides a remix.
It's just the sheer violence, noise and relentlessness of the remix that makes Bruno's Total Rebuild stand out in much the same way that Michael Forshaw's Nervehammer remix did for Cold Dust.
Throughout the track their is a sample that sounds like a rabid cybersonic pit bull terrier that phases and barks creating a tension of sheer terror. Lava-like bubbles of drums and Earache-like cymbals and hats are in the mix too, not to mention the Kodo drummers playing in a beer bottle factory. And I don't know if it's just me, but deep in the murky maelstrom of a mix there are some pretty sweet Detroit pads holding things together.
It probably sounds messy and weird and it is, but so was Jackson Pollock and this is what sets them apart.
I've only ever heard this tune played out once in all of its rampant ravaging glory. Ironically it was Surgeon who played it at the Orbit during one of the most merciless, brutal and devastating techno sets that I've ever witnessed. And Bruno's Total Rebuild was just as perfectly messy, scary and hard as it had sounded on my puny speakers at home if the rampaging nutters of the Orbit were anything to go by.
