You could call Peder's AND HE JUST POINTED TO THE SKY... experimental trip-hop, but I think that misses out on some of the icy beauty that the album has. Sure, "Ache" starts with a crystalline melody, but it suddenly explodes midway through into a kaleidoscope. "The Sour" has soul to spare, while "Botan" is spare and spacey, with a little theramin for added mystery. The pained vocals of Nino Moschella make "Would You" an antiquarian heartbreak, and a chorus of voices haunt both "Void" and "Timetakesthetimetimetakes." The simplicity of the arrangements allows space for the melodies to linger, as on the sparse "With A Great Feeling Of Love" (with the return of the theramin!) or the spotty funk of "Klart" that empties out to a single piano line. The soul makes another appearance with "Nothing," a torch song for emptiness. And "Conserva" brings that point to a close for this engaging, beautiful album.
