Pekka Streng was a Finnish pop lyricist, singer and guitarist who released two records on Love Records during the seventies. In 1975 he died prematurely of cancer, and afterwards has became a mystic and very appreciated cult figure in the Finnish pop-scene. His writings and compositions tended to be quite psychedelic and unique, and as such not very typically Finnish. His first recording "Magneettimiehen Kuolema" (The Death of the Magnetic Man) featured Streng backed by the now legendary prog band, Tasavallan Presidentti. It is a classic of psychedelic prog-pop with such memorable songs as "Sisältäni Portin Löysin" (Found a Gate Inside Me) and Makea Sandra (Sweet Sandra).

The second album by Pekka, Kesämaa, was more pop oriented recording made with some of the best Finnish studio musicians of the time. This track, Puutarhassa (In the Garden), is from Kesämaa, and represents a more jazzy approach than rest of the record. Having Olli Ahvenlahti on keyboards and Pekka Pohjola on bass, this track is sure to have plenty of good e-piano work and some downright groovy bass lines.

As refreshing as a cool spring morning and as fluently groovy as the best Getz/Gilberto tracks, Puutarhassa is a defitely immortal performance by this untimely died legend.
