Reflections of Misconception is simply a beautiful album by Peven Everett. It definitely places in the top 6 of my favorites PE joints (if case you are interested they are - Beyond the Universe/orig.vers, Reflections of Misconception, We Need House, Power Soul, Peven, Dear Europe) and in the top ten of albums from the 2000s. Reflections captures Peven at the height of his powers as a song writer. There's a great variety to the mix of songs, ranging from hip hop based tracks, straight up soul and contemporary r&b, to club & jazzy house tracks. So many wonderful compositions that excel both lyrically, and musically. Given the right exposure, these songs could really make money for someone. Vocally Peven is in top form. Production-wise, the album is a nice mix of low-fi DYI quality with major league ambitions. He layers each track with nuance and personality. He handles all the instrumentation and his playing is top notch. Reflections of Misconceptions is now 8 years old and I am still called to put it on and just listen to it - particularly late at night. I purchased it directly form peveneverett.net when it came out and it was a handmade package that arrived - cdr, and a computer printed insert that was/is kind of flimsy. I had to burn a digital copy to preserve the disc when it started to deteriorate. However it's these kind of touches that make this release very special to me. It's unfortunate that only a handful of people will probably ever have the experience to hear the full project, let alone own a copy. It's worth scoring if you can. There is also a companion compilation that was released a year following called Reflections Reworked which is enjoyable but does not really enhance. The original version is far superior and in little need of improvement.
