This release was a huge surprise, as it seemed that at this point of his life Pierre Henry has definitely let his masterpieces period behind him and that what we still could expect from him was some good (or even really good) musical moments but none with the strenght and the unique inventiveness of his true 6O's & 70's classics.
And then come this "Voyage Initiatique", one of his trademark hour pieces that reveals the old man has still some jewels hidden in his so-called labyrinthic sound collection.
This work makes clear reference to his 1962 ground-breaking oeuvre "Le Voyage" whithout being a pale & late copy constructed on some old nostalgia, but rather as being the exact counterpoint. As the original was an extremely dark almost illbient oriented look on some book of the deads, this one propose the same kind of travel but in a shinny almost positive manner. This is a journey that tell us the elevation of man and his profound links with the earth & nature, this is a pure shamanistic music of joy and confidence in the mankind.
Pierre Henry believes that we can escape from the circle and gives us a late positive message.
"Voyage Initiatique" is a must have, and can also be a good starting point for newcomers.
