Guess I got lucky, clean copy with no sibilance issues and no surface noise of any significance. VPI, Souther Linear Tracker, AT 150MLX. Maybe sounds a little dark sometimes, maybe, but overall I think this is a wonderful pressing and sounds great. The Last AAA edition of this album ever, so you might as well pick up a copy while you can.

In case there is any confusion, the UK and Japanese early presses sound significantly better that this release. While this is a great sounding reissue compared to the sound quality of most records released in the 1990s and 2000s, the Japanese first and second presses are sharper and clearer while still incredibly "present", and the UK first press is one of the great sonic experiences in records. This is consistent with a broader pattern of reissues of sabbath, zeppelin, and floyd being very highly rated on discogs, and frequently higher rated than the early UK presses. In one sense it's hard to argue with the high ratings for these releases, because the sound quality of reissues by these artists is often quite strong as far as reissues go, and they are also some of the great albums of all time--they should be highly rated! But don't be fooled by the reissue ratings relative to the originals, the early UK and Japanese presses of these albums sound better than even the best sounding reissues, with only a few exceptions.

Does anybody know where was this pressed? Says platted at RTI and pressed in Holland, doesn't specify the pressing plant. Thanks.

An excellent true AAA reissue. Very warm and analog sounding without any surface noise in my copy.
May be cut hot, with my cartridge only minor sibilance.

bright and sibilant (especially "money"). there is surface noise on both sides of my copy but not enough to rate VG.

I can't compare it to other issues, since I don't own any, but I think there is something a little off with this pressing. A small amount of surface noise and distortion in some places that shouldn't be there (but not that much). But then again, i read online comments from many people who have listened to several versions of this album who say it's one of the best ever, so it might just be me....
I won't bother talking about the music itself. Everybody knows it is undoubtedly one of the best albums ever, a timeless and iconic classic.

This is probably the most widely reissued album in existence.

Listening to my copy now. Barely any surface noise at all and no sibilance. This is my favorite pressing of this classic. AAA all the way thanks to Kevin Gray and Doug Sax.

Have to agree-- great mastering crap pressing. Some claim they've got clean copies but I doubt it. The level of surface noise on my copy makes it a waste of time to play. I'm using SOTA Star Sapphire with Linear Arm and Soundsmith Hyperion cart.
