This is a beautiful album all around. Honest with self deprecating humor. Wonderful songwriting and instrumentation with nothing wasted. I like maybe half of Silver Jews stuff and feel this is a step above. It’s a break away from your standard tunes and songwriting and you might not understand all of what David Berman is saying, but his sentiments wont be lost on you.

Great Record. Their are a few really sad songs that now seem tremendously sad, particularly the first two songs on Side B about his wife and mother. As a long time fan it may be a few months before I feel I can come back to this, but it has all of the great songwriting and wit of the Silver Jews records. After a while I'm sure this is a record I will come back to again & again. A wonderful parting gift to the world.

Great sounding album. Centered correctly and plays very quiet. As with all Drag City releases, there is no download code. Which really is the only complaint I have with this release. David is back! Highly recommended.
