I purchased this double cd and fell in love with it. There are a couple of tracks that I don't care for but besides that there are so many tracks that are either superb or simply a pure masterpiece. This is one of those albums that's epic in magnitude and replay value.

I really hope that THE INEVITABLE END really isn’t the end of Royksopp, but even if it is, they’ve had a good, long run of excellent tracks. On this album, they embrace their pop leanings even more fully, as “Skulls” kicks things off with a slab of darker-tinged electro, which soon enough turns bouncy. A more beat-driven version of “Monument” appears here too, as opposed to the softer version from DO IT AGAIN, while the softer “Sordid Affair” and “Compulsion” drizzle on some romance. The airy “You Know I Have to Go” floats around the atmosphere, before “Save Me” brings things back to earth. But “I Had This Thing” mixes the earthiness of the bass with the atmospherics for a track that straddles both worlds. “Running to the Sea,” their hit, is a blast of pure pop joy aimed directly at the dancefloor. But the quietly graceful “Coup de Grace,” leads into piano-driven “Thank You,” a gentle goodbye. But it’s not quite done yet: on the bonus disc, there’s a bonus mix of “Do It Again,” which emphasizes the breaks, as well as four additional tracks, from the dreamy “Goodnite, Mr. Sweetheart” and the short, string quartet “Oh No” and finally to the mutant R&B of “Something in My Heart.” A great way to end a great career.

Röyksopp: Please get back to your roots. Do sounds, that people have never heard before and which sound so familiar at the same time. It's sad to say so, but I am really disappointed with your latest and last album on CD. The Inevitable End won't find its way into my shelf.
