Ralf Gum offers up more house for dancefloor delectation with NEVER LEAVES YOU, and right from "Everything," you can hear his abiding love for classic Chicago vocal house. "Burning Star" and "Do It for Love" have hints of the smooth, sexy house à la Naked Music, while the horns of "The Only Way" lead it right into your feet. "Take Me To My Love" is more subdued and adds a nice African touch with its kalimba-like tones and Monique Bingham's dexterous vocals, but "Linda" wears its African influences more on its sleeve with Oluhle's vocals. The always-awesome Caron Wheeler contributes her powerhouse lungs to the funky, upbeat "So Good." There are a handful of more lackluster tracks, but the strong ones surely make up for weaknesses elsewhere. Never leave this album. Unless you have to. And then just come back to it later.
