I hate when people post up the wrong versions of the songs from different albums by the same artist Uhuru Kwanza being a prime example. Randy Weston revisited some of the tracks on his other albums. The version on this album is a stomper,. different to the video listed.

Definitely a ground breaking album, its one of those albums you should keep going back to listen too. Please don't forget Music From The New African Nations Featuring The Highlife. I talking pure class and inspiration here, once listened to carefully you should never forget.

Randy Weston’s Uhuru Afrika is one of the earliest examples of the blending of African rhythms and progressive socially conscious jazz, and is a truly landmark album for 1960. Featuring a 24 piece big band and lyrical content from none other than Langston Hughes, Uhuru Afrika belongs on the shelf next to Max Roach’s We Insist! Freedom Now Suite and Charles Mingus’ Mingus Ah Um. Banned from apartheid South Africa, this is Randy Weston’s magnum opus.
