Known for their uplifting trance anthems, particularly ‘Airwave’ and ‘Awakening’, Rank 1 shows their DJ prowess on this release by going beyond the confines of just that style. Mixed by Piet Bervoets, the member of Rank 1 who does the DJ side of things, this release is a well-rounded and complete trip through the different areas of the duo’s interest. The mix can probably be highlighted with hit tracks like ‘Find’ and ‘Beats @ Rank1 Dotcom’ but there are many other hidden gems throughout it. The first track is a brilliantly dreamy opener that hints at the banging bass as well as the progressive tunes to be heard later on. With ‘Till There Was You’ and on into ‘Whole’, Rank 1 creates a smooth, progressive build up. Once ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ hits, the mix is in full motion, and you’ve reached the uplifting core of the set with ‘Day Breaker’, a typical club-smashing trancer from Airbase. From there, Rank 1 brings it home with their bouncing anthem and rounds out the mix with the grinding tech-trance track ‘Omnia’. It’s an interesting ride listening to this mix and it’s more like a journey as opposed to a string of tracks similar to Rank 1’s productions. I think this shows that Rank 1 is a multitalented duo that along with producing hit singles can put together DJ sets that will rock crowds of many tastes. Hey, they do live performances too.
