I found this gem in a garage sale; and actually picked it up thinking it was Henry Mancini. Ray Ellis & His Orchestra's "The Best of Peter Gunn" is a great jazz recording, having that old-school detective show sound throughout. The music, from the opening familiar theme, to the lesser known tracks like "The Brothers Go To Mothers" kept my attention from start to finish. (Liner notes say "Mothers" was the bar where Gunn's girlfriend sang.) I could certainly see this at one of our late-night family game nights. Great vintage jazz -- with an edge.
