CDr, Album

A work inspired by lines from Thoreau's Walden.

"It is like molten glass cooled but not congealed, and the few motes in it are pure and beautiful like imperfections in glass. You may often detect a yet smoother and darker water, separated from the rest as if by an invisible cobweb, boom of the water nymphs, resting on it." Thoreau (Walden)

Robert Davies "Pond" CDr

Robert Davies, based in Ithaca, New York, is recording artist of dataObscura label, who is known not only as an ambient composer, but also as a gifted visual artist. With 8 solo albums on his credit plus 3 co-work albums with Anthony Paul Kerby as The Winterhouse, Robert returns with "Pond", his newest album released in October of 2010. "Pond" is inspired by "Walden", a non-traditional autobiography written by American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau and is divided in four tracks, each clocking around 15 minutes. "Summer Algae Pool" opens the album with very peaceful ambience, slowly floating with smoothly evolving, but calming and minimal atmospheres, just like a bloom of an algae, a vaguely recognizable living aquatic creature. It's a very meditative journey that continues also on "Ripple Glisten", this composition features some hints of delicate modern classical elements with strongly emotional impact, pure beauty and magnificence! And wonderfully chosen title too. Organic "Amidst Dark Reeds" perfectly harmonizes with the nature, it's like a trip through the night-time in the water garden pond. Dreamy and absorbing sonic landscapes, explored on the closing piece, "Boughs Overhanging", are evoking mystery, yearning and immense spaciousness. At the top of his craft, Robert Davies, reveals on "Pond" some of his most beautiful, memorable and sophisticated ambiences, nicely enriched by his gorgeous cover artwork painting of water lilies. Masterfully immersing work!!!
