It's a bit strange writing a glowing review for a CD that is quite rare and therefore expensive. At the moment of writing this review a person had to shell out 27 UK pounds or almost 50,-- US dollars to get this double CD set. I could get a copy for 10 UK pounds because there seemed to be a light scratching on one of the discs. To this day I haven't been able to locate this so called scratch. The CD's both play fine.
I prefer disc one. Ronnie and his band Slim Chance get every opportunity to bring their typical brand of folky, Irish and Country influenced music. The added attraction of course is the fact that it is played live in the studio. The musicians stay close to the originals but also manage to keep the music fresh and spontane. It's a joy to listen to. The same goes for disc two, save for one difference. There is someone present with the band who talks us through the various songs that are played. It's the only small issue that keeps the CD for getting 5 stars. I would however given 4,5 stars instead of 4 if that had been possible.
It would be nice if the complete Ronnie Lane catalogue could be re-released against mid price rates complete with bonus tracks, just to prevent some people making up to 150 pounds for their used copy.
