With Gerry McAvoy (from Deep Joy) on bass and Wilgar Campbell (from The Method) on drums then Gallagher went further under his own name: The Rory Gallagher Band of Rory Gallagher and his band. His musical style, the blues in all its facets, but also, in particular, the country blues. Campbell left in 1973 to The Mick Abrahams Band and was replaced by Rod De'Ath from Killing Floor. A short time later, was also the keyboardist for Killing Floor, Lou Martin, Member of Rory's backing band. Gallagher was by the music magazine Melody Maker in 1972 and 1974 declared the world's best guitarist. He enjoyed great popularity among other things in the Eastern bloc. The band would build a name with marathon performances during frequent tours. So they played on 15 december 1973 during a night concert prior to a car-free Sunday in De Doelen in Rotterdam as long until the visitors could take the first train home. In the 1970s also played the Belgian blues guitarist Roland Van Campenhout regularly in the band of Gallagher.
