This confirms what I originally suspected back in 1991. "Roll The Bones" was the 1st Rush album NOT to be released on vinyl in the US. That's why my vinyl Rush releases stop at "Presto". Great album that is moving them back to their guitar, bass and drums foundation, before synthesizers took over.

I already know what the songs sound like (and on this re-issue version, they all sound sooo beautiful, crisp and sharp and clear) but I also want to talk about the packaging, because that is what impressed me the most. Thank you for putting it all on one disc! (For some reason, having only 3 sides and leaving the 4th side empty just seems like such a waste. it feels incomplete) The material they chose for the cover is amazing! This nice glossy sleeve is perfect. The inner sleeve is so smooth and fresh too. I love new vinyl so much. This is a beautiful album to have on vinyl with that cover design by Hugh Syme

Roll The Bones is an album that I could easily live without. Most of it sounds like bland filler ("Face Up", "Ghost Of A Chance", "You Bet Your Life"); others I find start strongly (or at least interestingly), but just aren't that great ("Bravado", "Neurotica") and the gambling motif that punctuates the entire thing gets wearisome very quickly.

Also, that rap is excruciating.

Over production, crap name for poor intstrumental track, & soppy lighter-waving "ballad(s)" make for possibly Rush's worst album.

I just have to say that this album starts Rush off on a new bang in the 90's. Now first off, if you do not like variety, this album is not a good one for you. Because every song on this decent album is somewhat different from the rest. That's what I like about this album: variety. Sure, Geddy tries stuffing as much new synth sounds as he can, but don't let that get your hopes down about the album. Eventually, if you take a liking to the album, you can actually sing every song because the lyrics are easy to pick up. Luck be dammed on this album, if that's what it's all about. These songs can apply to most situations.

Dreamline: If you listen to the other songs on this album, then Dreamline doesn't sound like it belongs. Never fear, the riff master is here. Alex starts us off with some muted, quick notes and then the crashing sound of the song. The lyrics make no absolute sense, but with a name like "Dreamline", what's to be expected? If you can get past this song, you're good.

Bravado: Slow song, but lyrics that are sad. Peart's drumming reminds me of Red Sector A. There is not much to say about this song, except that it carries on the spirit of the Presto album. It sounds like a song that came from that album and even sounds like The Pass Mk. II.

Roll the Bones: The best thing about this song is Geddy's rap as an interlude in the song–something completely new that he has never done before. Some snyth sweeps and simple riffs. The song is "VERY" repetitive though, especially the chorus.

Face Up: We open with some Peart drumming and then some staccato synth, but the fast pace of this song never lets up. The chorus section us just mind-grabbing. You can't help yourself but sing along.

Where's My Thing?: Instrumentals, yay! This follows a similar structure throughout the song, but is enjoyable. The instrumentals that succeed this album follow patterns.

The Big Wheel: Now for those of you that don't like intense synth, this is not for you. This song is very popish almost, but sounds like a sweet ballad–well, at least the chorus section is. Alex's guitar work on this song is great.

Heresy: Morbid. The snare military drum march in the beginning opens this song... The song is calm and cooling, but Geddy's singing is mostly spoken and solemn, speaking of the demise of the USSR.

Ghost of a Chance: This section of the album, following Heresy is mostly sad songs. This one definitely comes from Peart's heart. If you don't pay close attention, you won't really hear Alex's playing. Geddy's singing here goes into doubletracking, which happens with the rest of this album...

Neurotica: This song is very funky, and very groovy. The chorus is the most enticing part, "Oooh ooh ohoh". The lyrics are easy to follow and the song overall just feels good to sing along to.

You Bet Your Life: Finally Peart, some more intense drumming. This song is fun to follow along with, especially the choruses and the prechoruses. Geddy's singing is awesome on this song, and so is Alex's strumming. Vocal layering is prevalent here, but is awesome to listen to, especially the chorus with Geddy's backing vocals listing all these type of people and occupations. Luck played into the lyrics about "Odds get even", you can't tell if this is a positive song or not. A good fade out to close the album on a high note.

If you don't have this album, seriously get it. There is much to enjoy on this album. 4.5 points.
