This cassette was purchased some time in the late 2000s at Azoulay Brothers music shop 29 Raziel St., Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel. The shop specializes in Arabic music specifically of the North African Jewish diaspora of which the legendary Salim Halali was a member. The Azoulays owned and operated numerous imprints in the early days of Israel's statehood including zakiphone and kaliphone. Many items in the shop are of indeterminable provenance, including this cassette.
Furthermore it is important to note here that Halali, while a gay Sephardic Jew was loyal to his Arabic cultural roots and chose to stay in the Maghreb rather than move to the Zionist State as would have been expected, despite its oft noted greater tolerance of non heterosexual lifestyles. Sephardic and Andalusian Classical were chosen above for lack of other options.
