A: [45 RPM] Solid funky house track. More than a hint of the 70's about this one bringing to mind Stevie Wonder in the bass synth. An almost disco quality funk to the bass guitar. The breakdown even feature's a Niall Rogers/Porno chopping of the guitar though sounding like neither. Superior vocal throughout that's effectively layered in the last 1/4. This goes backing vocal full disco towards the end too. All hugely technically proficient and i'm loath not to love it but it gets a [NINE]
B1: Very straight (almost vintage) remix albeit with a catchy more electronic take on the baseline. Comes into it's own for a few bars in the last 1/3 when the vocal samples are layered. Never quite gets over and lacks the soul of the rest of the release. [EIGHT]
B2: Very interesting track which starts off ostensibly latin but the bass is far too full and chunky and the synths too "techno" and then it's layer with a jazz guitar. Nice bit of something else and perfectly enjoyable for it's duration. [EIGHT]
C: [45 RPM] Funky House. Infectious chunky bass and synth chords and stabs. An alluring distant flute sample. Really a very simple track but absolute quality. [TEN]
D1: This remix clashes in two styles on this track. Brilliant and quite a clinical, techy verse for is at odds with the more soulful chorus. It's a gorgeous soulful chorus but each change of sun-genre grates a little though when she riffs over the verse if splendid. Weirdly less than the sum of its parts. [NINE]
D2: Instrumental for the first half. The Rurals are silky smooth as ever with a lovely acoustic guitar solo over a funky backtrack. Possibly a touch laidback to be truly engaging. The second half adds a deep house version of the A1's chorus giving it a little more oomph. This is blended with a more etherial synth which liquifies things the perfect amount. It does what it does very well. [NINE]
