Great record, seems have remained relatively under-the-radar. Excellent shuffling production, clearly a Kassem Mosse production, more obviously on the A1 & B1 with the beatdown vibes. The A2 & B2 tracks are blissful ambient tracks (which I bought this 12" for) - 'Bayan Obo' with the lightest of kickdrums and Hoidas Lake, a shimmering, distant exercise in hypnotic repetition.

Some trivia about this record: Bayan Obo, Kvanefjeld, Hoidas Lake all seem to be titles directly lifted from the locations of rare-earth mining projects, an obvious nod to 'Seltene Erden' which is German for 'rare earth'. Northern Rae is perhaps an illusion to John Rae, notable for exploring tracts of northern Canada.

Bayan Obo is like a happy memory of childhood. No narrative or description of anything in particular, but a distant yet radiant feeling, like the warmth of the sun, that you were happy once or at peace - blissfuly naive. You can never go back but you remember that feeling...
