As grandson of a preacher David Eugene Edwards developed a fascination for stories about hell and damnation. In 1992 he decided Sixteen horsepower to this source of inexhaustible inspiration to exploit. Sixteen horsepower may now consider a small but impressive catalog on the alternative countrygebied. The sultry, God-fearing texts of Edwards are the perfect tension at the understated guidance, so that the whole in the distance to the Gothic realms of Nick Cave and Gun Club. As the name suggests there is Folklore somewhat on this cd room for only four original compositions. The rest of Folklore is filled with traditional work and compositions of Hank Williams and the Carter Family, without breaking the atmosphere, though it is by banjo game-dominated Single Girl of the latter family suddenly very cheerful. Folklore is another brilliant culmination in the repertoire of Sixteen horsepower.
