ALIEN RADIO sees Slam moving in a more pop direction with their techno with the addition of vocalists, but, fear no, they're still plenty deep with the beats and thick bass of "Visions," and the title track has a nice dark heft to its breaks. But "Narco Tourists" gets even more involved with the breaks, inching into electro territory. And when Dot Allison adds her voice to "Visions," the results are appropriately dreamy, while Tyrone Palmer adds a bit of tech-soul to "Eyes Of Your Soul." The album as a whole is consistently upbeat, and the reappearance of "Positive Education" (here, mixed by the Slam boys themselves in a more melodic take) is a welcome addition. "Bass Addiction" takes up the mantle of pure techno, and the bright "Virtuoso" closes the album. Not so alient after all. But still out of this world.
