I love this album and know its ins and outs. Too bad then that this release doesn't quite live up to my demands. The mastering lacks a lot of bass in songs that need it and in general doesn't show good dynamics or detail. Luckily Sokos singing is always easy to hear over the instruments. The pressing is also a bit disappointing with quite some surface noise and crackles, especially detrimental on this kind of quiet music when its also not mastered loudly, although mostly prominent on side A and not so much on B for some reason. Perhaps just bad luck on my part. The lyrics sheet/poster is a nice inclusion however and the CD in case you would like a cleaner sound. A rather mediocre package, but if you like Soko it might still be worth a cheap purchase.

Edit: Everything sounds very low end but strangely enough Treat Your Woman Right is the one with the best mastering of Sokos voice, despite it being furthest in on the record side A. I feel like inner groove distortion should cause it to be the worst sounding song but its actually the best on a technical level as I see it. To my surprise most songs after that are superiorly mastered with better dynamics. They could still be better though. I suppose the first 7 tracks just were not given much attention because of how simple they are. What a strange case indeed.

Update:
With RCM cleaning and a new cartridge most of any crackles or sound anomalies were removed from the sound. However side A still seems lile a poor atempt. I mostly wonder why its cut so quiet because while the surface noise is not terribly pronounced it doesnt help that you have to crank the volume so. And there is still no dynamics or impact at all in the sound of the first 7 tracks.
