Soulstice came out of the house scene out of San Francisco at the start of the new millennium, exemplified by Naked Music. Indeed, one of the primary figures of Soulstice is none other than Gabriel René, better known as Aquanote. He teams up with sister Gina here for some mellow downtempo, with some grit thrown in: "Illusion" suddenly gets harder at its end, while "Fall Into You" has a hissy rhythm amongst the lush chords and vocals. But "Lovely" and "Wind" finally get their smooth on, though "Andromeda" sounds bland because of it. "The Reason" merges some nice acoustic guitar and an electro bassline, but they play the American Songbook classic "Tenderly" straight, with a Brazilian twist and light breaks. A nice album overall, though it doesn't quite stick.
