Notes

The Spirit of Life Ensemble's mdic is exactly that - spirited, contemporary, dynamic and creative. The Rhythms of Africa, Latin America and the U.S. form a solid foundation of soulful interplay, while both expansive and innovative. At once introspective and invigorating, the Ensemble's music is one of liberation and inspiration with deep roots in the traditions of African-American classical music often times referred to as "jazz."

The Spirit of Life Ensemble isa group of multi-faceted artist/musicians who have made numerous contributions to liberation struggles and progressive causes...for human rights, self-determination, justice, equality and world peace.

Over the years the Ensemble has put together several varying performing units that featured some of the finest "unsung heroes" of contemporary creative music. In addition, they coordinated a cultural center and are artists-in-residence at the Cultural Arts Center-Miller Branch Library the Jersey City Public Library, located in the predominantly African-American oppressed community of Jersey City, NJ/U.S.A. They have received many awards for their performing arts and community services.

An example of the Ensemble's performing engagements and experience include: Natonal Black Educational Conference; Clemson University-S.C.; Rahway State Prison-N.J.; Princeton University N.J.; Newark Museum N.J.; Village Gate N.Y.C.; African Liberation Day '82 N.Y.; WKCR Radio-Columbia University N.Y.; People's Anti-war Mobilization Washington D.C.; N.J.
