Jocelyn Brown’s number one fan here, so why aren’t I blown away by her vocals or the production on this housed up remake of the Elvis/Candi Staton standard? Once ‘Suspicious Minds’, now just plain ‘Suspicious’, and with a less-than ferociously commanding vocal performance from everyone’s favourite work-for-hire singer too. There is however a certain anthemic appeal to it all, with Stitch enhancing the deeply soulful nature of the song’s groove with a gospel-vibe, and instead of the disco rifferama there’s a sparse, but inspired, Hammond thing going on.
