The Super Sonic Soul Pimps (3SP) were one of those schticky band best enjoyed live than on CD. The Pimps' back story was that of a band born from the unholy experiments of aliens and a certain Earth-bound scientist-slash-organist... Or something.
Albino was the Pimps' second release, preceded by an EP that was devoured by my tape deck at some point. On the whole, the music is up-tempo funk-rock with plenty of Hammond organ, and goofy lyrics. "Puppy Love" probably translates best from stage to plastic.
Live in a small bar with plenty of beer and college girls, the Pimps were tough to beat. They put on a great show. I had a chance to interview the band during their tour for this album. They were great guys who clearly enjoyed playing their music, and had a great sense of humor about the whole thing.
