‘Won’t Sleep Tonight’, Super8 & Tab’s first collaboration with Ben Lost, represented a welcome change in musical direction for the duo. Previous collaborative and individual productions were all instrumental in nature (although they frequently utilised vocal cut-ups and effects) and it was exciting to see two of the best trance producers around using vocals in a much more significant way. ‘Won’t Sleep Tonight’ has a heavy, groove-dominated sound like its successor, ‘Needs To Feel’, but the sound and vocals are somewhat darker here (perhaps one of the reasons why the word ‘Moody’ was applied to one of the mixes). In addition, there are no emotional strings on the breakdown here; the bassline grinds further, the suspense builds and the track motors relentlessly on towards its conclusion. As I have mentioned previously, both productions are excellent and it is difficult trying to pick a favourite, but it is certainly an enjoyable experience trying to do so.
