I recently bought the EU version of this 40th anniversary edition 180 gr vinyl, also called ”Back to black”, since I have begun to listen to vinyl more and more lately! I know this album very well and I believe this is my 5th or maybe 6th copy (vinyl and cd) since 1979 when I first discovered Supertramp. One could say I know this album and music back and forth. The music is indeed a Masterpiece, but...this vinyl is a total disaster!! First, the output signal is way too low, which makes the sound from the needle scratching the surface audible between songs and during softer parts of the album! Quite annoying!! Second, the sound quality is very poor and I highly doubt they have used the original tapes or any high resolution audio file for this pressing... It sounds muddy and very low res to me! This is absolutely NOT an Audiophile pressing!! And last, this copy has a lot of scratching noise here and there...very annoying indeed!!! No matter how I tried to clean the surface, the noise remained! IMHO this vinyl is unlistenable... Warning! Don’t buy! Maybe the US version is better, but this one went back to the store sooner than anyone could say ”Crap”....

Mine was also bought on Amazon...includes all the stickers and download card. First one was warped pretty badly, second try came without any defects...sound quality is good, much better than my 393 647-1 version, which was bought used (washed twice).

Just like opieandy, my version has a sticker on the back that says made in Czech Republic which looks undocumented on Discogs. Same barcode, same year (2014) as this version. The sound quality of this version is really great !

I just bought on Amazon a 2014 version not listed here. Single LP, and not the Back to Black series. Sticker on back says made in Czech Republic. Same barcode as the Back to Black release.

I see there are "variants" to this release. The Side A runout is close to Variant 2, but has 38984 instead of 38658. And in any event, it has no Back to Black sticker and no mp3 card/ticket.

Bizarre it's not on discogs. Shrink wrap was sloppy so I was concerned, especially after reading the comments here.

In any event, sound quality is thankfully outstanding. Dead quiet, which was especially noticeable very early on the quiet parts of "School."

Totally agree with the bad reviews about this pressing. Lots of clicks and pops that spoil the listening of an album full of quiet moments where the noise is more conspicuous. I had to retun it and am trying to find an affordable speaker’s corner issue since. Please disregard the 4 stars. I don’t know how they appeared and have not been able to erase them.

Dreadful pressing. Lots of random pops and crackle in quieter places. Non fill on Bloody Well Right causes nasty distorted rip sounds during play. Listening to the album just makes me angry now and I revert to a digital copy.

My pressing is quiet and sounds really nice, one of the better sounding reissues I own.

Purchased brand new, sealed. Terrible pressing. Lots of background noise, cracking noise ....
Thorough cleaning through a VC-S vinyl cleaner (multiple times) did not make it one tiny bit better.
Maybe it's just a one-off, a bad vinyl from an otherwise good release. Just like a corked bottle of wine.
Or maybe this release is just bad. I would not know.
