In 2008, Vega and other famous artists from the US, Canada and South Africa to the United Kingdom, the album Songs for Tibet, an initiative to support Tibet and the dalai lama Tenzin Gyatso. Songs for Tibet appeared at the same time as the 2008 Summer Olympics in the People's Republic of China whose opening took place on 8 August; the album was released via iTunes on 5 August and from 12 August through music stores around the world. Since the invasion of Tibet in 1950-1951 China occupied the country with-according to critics-a widespread political, religious and cultural oppression.

Suzanne Vega was married to producer Mitchell Froom and has with him a daughter, Ruby. Suzanne married for the second time in 2006, now with lawyer and poet Paul Mills. She had early 80 's also already have a relationship with him.
