Did anyone else's copy end abruptly about 10 seconds short of the ending of Finally, Peace? Doesn't really affect the listening experience but it still bothers me a little.

Not many reunion bands achieve something so artfully accomplished as Swans. The Glowing Man is a great record and the perfect ending to the series of albums they have published in recent years.
The deep expansive sound they were forging since The Seer here is developed to its fullest. It seems for The Glowing Man MG looked inwards in search of a more hypnotic and droney sound. The aggressiveness of the music is present but not as frontal as in To Be Kind. At times it resembles the creepy atmosphere and minimalist approach of STFTB, but this time with a more uplifting and spiritual quality. Lyrics of the first two tracks were inspired by an anonymous 14th century book of Christian mysticism ("The Cloud of Unknowing") while the others "grew from things I thought at the time", according to MG. "Cloud of forgetting" is a slowly built crescendo which ends on a beautiful decrescendo piano melody. "Cloud of unknowing" takes you on a long journey to the deepest core of the album ,while the songs on side C/D take you back to the surface and envelope you with their dizzy drones. "When will I return" is a turning point on the album, the heavy instrumentation is taken back giving way to a laid back acoustic sound with female vocals. The lyrics are more straightforward and the song feels unsettling and detached from the previous songs, but somehow prepares the way for the center masterpiece of the album: "The Glowing Man" . This track is up there in greatness with "The Sound" and "Bring the sun", showing the band unleash its maximum power. "Finally, Peace" is the perfect ending to this long journey, a beautiful finale which leaves you floating into eternity.
It should be noted that half of the album came from a live context , so these songs come fully into life when seeing the band live, which is one the most intense musical experiences I have ever witnessed. For the best listening experience this album should be heard without doing anything else at high volume, in total immersion . The vinyl pressing is top quality, absolutely clean sound and with great dynamic range. It sounds much better than the CD edition, you should definetly grab a copy. If you can't afford the vinyl deluxe edition (with the DVD) then I'd suggest buying the standard vinyl edition plus the 2xCD w/DVD edition which is still available for a fair price

Just FYI, "When Will I Return? (Demo)" is presumably the same version as the one found on "The Gate." Can anybody confirm?

Thanks.

Towards the end of when will I return, hints of Elizabeth Fraser come to mind when hearing Jennifer Gira chant. Somewhat of a garlands era flavor to the way she just carries it out for me. Congrats on turning what I'm sure was no small piece of coal into such a stirring diamond.

Just received my pre-order in the mail and it sounds great so far! I'm glad that the vinyl issue isn't any shorter due to edits. One problem; I got a duplicate of Disc 2 and no Disc 3. I've used the download code, but man what a bummer.

Bravo, bravo, bravissimo. I won't be reviewing this one, in order to not subtract from its ineffability; beyond Doors, beyond Floyd, beyond reason. Fk you very much to team Mickey G et al (incl. Ms Grimm) for making this sexy beast thunder across our skies in the almighty happening that it is. To be kind, indeed x)

Nice to see the songs haven't been edited aside from the fade outs on Cloud of Unknowing and The Glowing Man, yet the ending of Finally, Peace abruptly cuts out which is relatively minor.
