Purple CD comes in semi-transparent purple jewel case, with no identifying marks except the artist name and album title, and record label info on the spine. The word "Synectics" is spelled out in purple geometric shapes on the front.

From the legendary early period of Rephlex comes synectics, one of the more obscure releases on the label then and now. I had always been curious about it, but mostly saved my limited cash flow for more prominant releases on the label. However, having recently come by a copy, I thought I might say a few words about it.

This release is most similar to mike dred's early work on the label, as both kosmik kommando and chimeria and a nod to his universal indicator output (red and blue, in case your wondering). It also has some commonalities with early atom heart techno. so, what does all that mean now that the namedropping is out of the way? :P well, basically it is a fairly on target exposition of early ninties post detroit european techno favouring acid a bit more than overt melody. all in all, very good stuff, not the best the label has released, and i would caution even the most obesesive collector against paying too much for it on the used market.

i should also point out that the first track is a bit unique, in that between technofied parts, it has some sprawling, well done ambient passages.
