In 2001 the Japanese record company Avex asked Ferry Corsten to produce a track for the new album of Ayumi Hamasaki. It had to be a real trance track, so Ferry started to write an instrumental version first. When it was finished Ferry gave this version ‘East West - The Love I Lost’ as a working title. It was send to the record company in Japan, so they could start writing the vocals for it. In the meantime Ferry had already started to play this instrumental demo version in his DJ sets.

Because the vocals that were written for the track, didn’t actually fit in the demo version that Ferry had made, he had to produce a new version. Nowadays, this version is known as ‘Ayu - Connected’. You can find this track on the Ayumi Hamasaki album ‘I Am …’ that was released on January 4 2002. ‘Connected’ was released later as a single as well, but the original ‘The Love I’ve Lost’ has never been released ...
